The Power of Organization

The summer of 2016 has been hot, humid, and scattered with powerful storms across the country. Just a few days ago I sat watching bright streaks of lightning, listening to the loud crack and roar of the thunder over my home. Another one of the massive thunderstorms organized as part of the “Ridge Rider” storm system in the Midwest. Mother Nature is amazing in her creation and beautiful in her delivery.

In between the flickering of the lights in my office, I sat working on the outline of a new program for my business. Organizing my thoughts into an outline and breaking down the concepts into actionable strategies. When all of a sudden, a bolt of lighting stuck with such power, Lucy – my 12-½ year old puppy, who until then was sleeping through the storm – jolted awake and ran off into the bedroom.  After consoling her and getting her settled, I realized a powerful connection.

I’ve been re-reading Napoleon Hill’s classic Think and Grow Rich. One of the principles of his work is the organization of knowledge.

Passion Drives Success

Passion and Desire

Ever had one of those days….maybe weeks or months….where you just felt stuck? Frustrated at the lack of progress in your business. You try all sorts of things to gain traction only to end up spinning your wheels. And you keep trying. Nothing seems to work. Sure, you get new leads, but landing new clients just isn’t happening. At least not on the timeframe you want.  Your passion starts to wane.

I must admit. I’ve been feeling that way recently.

New campaigns. Different topics. Pilot programs. More networking and connecting. Speaking to different audiences. Doing all these great things to promote my services, but somehow struggling to get traction. Or should I say, struggling to achieve the results I want.

No “get rich quick” schemes. And certainly no online businesses that generate 6-figures with no sweat equity regardless of what the “experts” or “gurus” tell you.

Building a successful business from scratch takes time, effort, passion, and determination.

That is the reality. But we so often try to compare ourselves to others to measure our progress....

Maintaining momentum in your business can get difficult through the lazy, hazy days of summer. It can be all to easy stray off the path, slow down, and get stuck. Clients and customers may take vacations, shift priorities, or seem hard to find, but that doesn’t mean that your business needs to go stagnate.

Here are 3 quick tips to help you maintain momentum during the summer months:

Keep Your Routine

The first hour after you wake up in the morning is often referred to as the “Golden Hour.” According to this article by the National Institutes of Health, our brains are hard at work de-cluttering and detoxifying as we sleep. What does that mean? Our brains are super clean first thing in the morning. Successful people have long known that this “Golden Hour” is the best time to establish a routine to prepare for a highly productive day.

If you don’t have a morning ritual, it’s time to get one. Movement, mediation, journaling are all great ways to prepare mentally, emotionally, and physical for the hours ahead. This daily routine will keep you on track even in the most distracting times of the year.

Did you happen to catch the “Strawberry Moon” Monday night? Not only did we celebrate the Summer Solstice, but we also were witness to a full moon. It’s such a rare occurrence – the last time was 70 years ago!

Now, I’m not completely “woo-woo”, but you cannot deny the powerful energy of Monday night. I took full advantage of the longest day of the year to have a fire outside and absorb the serene sunset and magnificent full moon.

There is something about fires that I really love. Perhaps that’s why I really enjoy camping. I don’t need an excuse to have a fire in the morning, the afternoon, AND the evening. The crackling wood, the smoky smell, and the jumping flames mesmerize me. Relaxing by a fire helps me to unwind, let go of the thoughts running rampant through my mind, and instead get caught up in a mystery.

With the power of the full moon and summer solstice, I decided that it was a perfect night to “let go” of some things. I mean, why not? When you have that much universal energy supporting you, it felt like a perfect time to throw a few things into the fire....

What’s the BEST That Can Happen?

Summer is here in Chicago. Now that I’m back from the Outer Banks, it’s time to do some outside work around the house. After a wet spring, all my bushes needed trimming this weekend. So, after the heat wave passed, I was out in the yard on Sunday taking care of business.

I am blessed with amazing neighbors all around me. We get together for dinner, drink wine, enjoy evening fires, and chat over the fence. My neighbor, Denny, who lives behind me, walked over to the fence when he saw me pulling weeds.

“Hey, Nadine! How’s business?” Denny enthusiastically yelled.

“Doing good.” He sensed the hesitation in my response. Honestly, things were going okay, just not great. Heading into the summer months, it seems to get more difficult to get the attention of prospective clients. Always a challenge to keep up the momentum.

We continued to talk about life – sadness over the events in Orlando over the weekend – briefly about politics (we are on opposite ends), and, as always, he gives me some tips on business. Denny, now retired, was a successful salesman and businessman throughout his career, so I enjoy hearing his perspective on a common challenge for every entrepreneur – lead generation and sales conversion....

There Is Still Time To Make A Change

Lately, I’ve been on a Led Zeppelin kick. Every so often, I find myself listening to the soulful sounds and lyrics of my all time favorite band. Some times it’s about nostalgia. Other times it’s about kicking myself in the butt to move forward.

The transition from the corporate world into entrepreneurship has been quite the journey. When I took the leap almost 2 years ago, I thought I had everything figured out. Yeah, right. I had some things in order – a plan, money in the bank, a website, and speaking engagements. But then there were things that came up that I had no idea were around the corner.

For instance, my network. With 20 years of experience in multiple industries spanning corporations, niche businesses, and consulting firms, I had tons of contacts to help build my business. Except, now I was in the entrepreneurial camp – not corporate. Who knew that I would end up feeling so alone? The mindset is completely different. I needed a new network of like-minded individuals.

Through this transition, I have been undergoing a transformation of sorts. Of course, I didn’t realize it until recently. My overly analytical and logical mind was getting the best of me....

Change Your Environment – Change Your Results


The late great motivational and personal improvement guru, Wayne Dyer, wrote the book “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.” In this best seller, Dyer shared his thoughts and review of hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching – producing 81 distinct essays on how to apply this ancient wisdom. The basic tenet was the concept that when you change your thoughts, you can make significant changes in your life results.

When things aren’t going the way we want in our lives and businesses, we have a tendency to jump right into taking action. Any action to produce results. We do create some short-term gains, but a long-term sustainable impact eludes us.

Getting to the core thought that keeps us stuck, frustrated, and not implementing new ideas is the only way to create lasting change that will impact our long-term results.

That’s great to know, but can be hard to implement. Spending time to deep dive into our core thoughts takes effort and can be an unfolding process. It takes time to discover the deeper values and beliefs we hold. So it can be frustrating when you need results fast. Especially if you are in a time crunch to generate cash flow or launch a new product or service to grow your business....
