Desire or Passion: What You Need to Succeed

Passion Desire

It was a beautiful Friday morning last week here in Chicago. I took my cup of coffee and sat in my recliner looking out into the lush green yard. The squirrels were busy burying nuts for winter. A baby bunny scampered out from underneath the bushes to take in the warmth of the sun. And the birds were telling the neighborhood about the feast I have prepared for them around the house.

I picked up “Think And Grow Rich” and opened up to the chapter on desire. As I’ve mentioned before, Napoleon Hill’s classic is a book I make a point to read at least once every year. One of my early business mentors gave me a beautiful leather bound copy to encourage the practice. After all, more millionaires and billionaires have been created throughout the world from the principles in this book than from anything else.

As I picked up my cup to take a sip of coffee, a magnificent blue jay appeared on my feeder just outside the window. Mind you – blue jays are a rarity in my yard. In the 10 years I have lived here, I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen a blue jay....

Prepare for 2017: Goal Setting for Winners

Goal setting

Welcome to the unofficial start of autumn! This is my favorite time of year – the beautiful colors in nature, cool crisp weather, and pumpkin bread! Although I’d rather be switching out my wardrobe to comfy sweaters and boots this week (except it’s near 90F in Chicago), I decided it was time to look ahead to 2017 and start with some business goal setting.

Being the logical and structured person I am, I opened up an Excel spreadsheet and started to put together some numbers. I took a realistic swipe at my intentions and was quite pleased with the results. The numbers worked out to support my business and personal goals. But the numbers alone didn’t feel right.

The standard wisdom for achieving any goals that they should be SMART: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Driven. This framework is helpful in curing the common pitfalls of goal setting – irrelevance and ambiguity. However, this structure does nothing to capture motivation and vision.

Quite frankly, it feels clunky and as if something critical is missing.

When I work with clients, and on my own business, I utilize a slightly different approach to goal setting and execution. Vision and desire are equally important in growth and business building....

Mastermind for Business Success

Mastermind

One of the secrets of my entrepreneurial success has been the fact I sought out a mentor and joined a business mastermind community. Just last week I spent 3 days in San Diego with my peeps to assess, adjust, and create new goals for my business.

Within the mastermind, I have developed business partnerships, life-long friendships, and accountability partners. They have helped me to see where I’m getting in my own way and supported me to push through obstacles.

In fact, that’s me discussing new ideas with my fellow mastermind entrepreneurs Amy Andrews of Feel Good Again HealthTeena Evert of Ignite Love Now, and Anne Dickenson of Eye On Your Business. If you are looking to improve your health, find true love, or make more money in your business you must check out their work.

Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich is chock full of wisdom for entrepreneurs and results-driven individuals. One of his critical points is that successful people are not going it alone. Using the collective mind of other success-minded individuals pushes you toward greatness. He calls it the “Master Mind.”

“Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definitive purpose.”  – Napoleon Hill

The concept of a mastermind is not new....

Passion Drives Success

Passion and Desire

Ever had one of those days….maybe weeks or months….where you just felt stuck? Frustrated at the lack of progress in your business. You try all sorts of things to gain traction only to end up spinning your wheels. And you keep trying. Nothing seems to work. Sure, you get new leads, but landing new clients just isn’t happening. At least not on the timeframe you want.  Your passion starts to wane.

I must admit. I’ve been feeling that way recently.

New campaigns. Different topics. Pilot programs. More networking and connecting. Speaking to different audiences. Doing all these great things to promote my services, but somehow struggling to get traction. Or should I say, struggling to achieve the results I want.

Entrepreneurship is hard. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. The benefits are amazing, but there is serious work to be done. There are no overnight success stories. No “get rich quick” schemes. And certainly no online businesses that generate 6-figures with no sweat equity regardless of what the “experts” or “gurus” tell you.

Building a successful business from scratch takes time, effort, passion, and determination.

That is the reality. But we so often try to compare ourselves to others to measure our progress....

Release What Is Holding You Back

Release What's Holding you back

Did you happen to catch the “Strawberry Moon” Monday night? Not only did we celebrate the Summer Solstice, but we also were witness to a full moon. It’s such a rare occurrence – the last time was 70 years ago!

Now, I’m not completely “woo-woo”, but you cannot deny the powerful energy of Monday night. I took full advantage of the longest day of the year to have a fire outside and absorb the serene sunset and magnificent full moon.

There is something about fires that I really love. Perhaps that’s why I really enjoy camping. I don’t need an excuse to have a fire in the morning, the afternoon, AND the evening. The crackling wood, the smoky smell, and the jumping flames mesmerize me. Relaxing by a fire helps me to unwind, let go of the thoughts running rampant through my mind, and instead get caught up in a mystery.

With the power of the full moon and summer solstice, I decided that it was a perfect night to “let go” of some things. I mean, why not? When you have that much universal energy supporting you, it felt like a perfect time to throw a few things into the fire....

What’s the BEST That Can Happen?

A mature woman pruning a bush

Summer is here in Chicago. Now that I’m back from the Outer Banks, it’s time to do some outside work around the house. After a wet spring, all my bushes needed trimming this weekend. So, after the heat wave passed, I was out in the yard on Sunday taking care of business.

I am blessed with amazing neighbors all around me. We get together for dinner, drink wine, enjoy evening fires, and chat over the fence. My neighbor, Denny, who lives behind me, walked over to the fence when he saw me pulling weeds.

“Hey, Nadine! How’s business?” Denny enthusiastically yelled.

“Doing good.” He sensed the hesitation in my response. Honestly, things were going okay, just not great. Heading into the summer months, it seems to get more difficult to get the attention of prospective clients. Always a challenge to keep up the momentum.

We continued to talk about life – sadness over the events in Orlando over the weekend – briefly about politics (we are on opposite ends), and, as always, he gives me some tips on business. Denny, now retired, was a successful salesman and businessman throughout his career, so I enjoy hearing his perspective on a common challenge for every entrepreneur – lead generation and sales conversion....

There Is Still Time To Make A Change

Lately, I’ve been on a Led Zeppelin kick. Every so often, I find myself listening to the soulful sounds and lyrics of my all time favorite band. Some times it’s about nostalgia. Other times it’s about kicking myself in the butt to move forward.

The transition from the corporate world into entrepreneurship has been quite the journey. When I took the leap almost 2 years ago, I thought I had everything figured out. Yeah, right. I had some things in order – a plan, money in the bank, a website, and speaking engagements. But then there were things that came up that I had no idea were around the corner.

For instance, my network. With 20 years of experience in multiple industries spanning corporations, niche businesses, and consulting firms, I had tons of contacts to help build my business. Except, now I was in the entrepreneurial camp – not corporate. Who knew that I would end up feeling so alone? The mindset is completely different. I needed a new network of like-minded individuals.

Through this transition, I have been undergoing a transformation of sorts. Of course, I didn’t realize it until recently. My overly analytical and logical mind was getting the best of me....

3 Quick Tips To Reduce Overwhelm….and an Invitation

A very angry aggressive woman is clenching her fists in rage

You have all these terrific IDEAS of how to grow your business and bring in more clients. But for some reason, those ideas stay stuck in your head.

How many times do you re-write the same projects on your To Do List every week? You have great INTENTIONS of implementing that new strategy or lead generation tool in your business, but you keep making excuses on why you aren’t doing anything about it.

Getting stuck and remaining stagnate happens to all of us. Some people choose to stay where they are. Lack luster results, draining energy, and added stress. Other people make the decision to change. Try something new, learn from the experience, and increase the impact on their bottom line.

I recently hosted a 10-day virtual event called “Hot Prospects, Cold Cash.” It was an amazing event for entrepreneurs to learn from 20 top experts in lead generation and sales conversion so they can build a revenue-generating machine. (It’s not to late to get access to these proven strategies and techniques – go to www.HotProspectsColdCash.com/upgrade to find out more!)

The challenge I see after this event is that now you are armed with great new ideas to grow your business, but no idea on how to implement them all for the best results....

Change Your Environment – Change Your Results

DSC_0315

The late great motivational and personal improvement guru, Wayne Dyer, wrote the book “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.” In this best seller, Dyer shared his thoughts and review of hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching – producing 81 distinct essays on how to apply this ancient wisdom. The basic tenet was the concept that when you change your thoughts, you can make significant changes in your life results.

When things aren’t going the way we want in our lives and businesses, we have a tendency to jump right into taking action. Any action to produce results. We do create some short-term gains, but a long-term sustainable impact eludes us.

Getting to the core thought that keeps us stuck, frustrated, and not implementing new ideas is the only way to create lasting change that will impact our long-term results.

That’s great to know, but can be hard to implement. Spending time to deep dive into our core thoughts takes effort and can be an unfolding process. It takes time to discover the deeper values and beliefs we hold. So it can be frustrating when you need results fast. Especially if you are in a time crunch to generate cash flow or launch a new product or service to grow your business....

Lead Magnet: How to Leverage Speaking to Find Prospects

NHaupt speaking

How successful are you in leveraging speaking as a lead generation tool in your business?

Honestly, I thought I had this technique all figured out when I launched F.A.S.T. Women in Business in 2014. Speaking was second nature to me. Heck, I’ve been speaking to audiences (and anyone who would listen to me!) since I was a teenager. Throughout my career, I spoke on the big stage at industry conferences, taught breakout sessions, trained sales and dealer operations personnel, and successfully sold my big ideas to executive management. Small intimate groups or massive auditoriums – it didn’t matter. I loved sharing my knowledge in fun, interactive ways.

So, when I first started on the speaking circuit for my own business, I followed the structures that had been successful for me in the past. Heavy content, lots of teaching, and sharing my expertise. The audiences were amazed and grateful for all the information. But getting members of the audience to want more or to schedule a consultation call with me was non-existent. They loved my material, but I had no way to engage them further.

What I came to realize was that the structure I was using from my past experiences did not work in this new environment....
